Homeowners are increasingly spending more time in their gardens. In many cases, they are treating them as extensions to their homes. Using the right lighting, furniture, heating and other elements it is perfectly possible to turn a garden into a space that can be used very much like an extra room.

The more pleasant the space is, the more likely you are to use it. As a result, it really is worth investing in some nice lighting for your garden. You will be stunned by how using the right lighting can change the ambiance and turn your garden into a space you can enjoy even at night.

Light up your Decking

Small backyard with long narrow pool

These LED decking lights from LED Hut are a perfect example of what we mean. They can be used to bathe your deck in a soft, welcoming light, which also makes it a safer space. The amount of light that is thrown up by them is just enough to let you see where you are walking without spoiling the restful atmosphere of your deck.

Light up your Garden Stairs

If you have deck stairs, placing a light on each one adds interest to the structure, as well as ensuring that people do not trip while walking up or down them.

Use Spike Lighting to Create Interest

Spike lighting is particularly useful in a garden. Each light is simply stabbed into the ground meaning that you can place them more or less anywhere. They are great for uplighting an interesting plant or tree such as a palm. But, they can just as easily be used to line a path or light up a garden ornament.

They are also a good way to provide a bit of security to the darker corners of your garden. Thieves rely on not being seen, so lighting up the area alongside your fence can be a good deterrent. If you do it well, you can also enhance the look of your garden, for example, placing each light so that it lights up a nice plant rather than an ugly fence panel.

There are many ways to use this spotlight style lighting in a garden or yard. If you want a few ideas, click here to be taken to a page that contains some great inspiration.

Pick out your Water Features

If you have a pond or water feature, these can be turned into night-time focal points. They usually look wonderful.

You could invest in waterproof lighting units that allow you to light your pool or pond from below. This produces a particularly stunning effect. Plus, it turns a pool or hot tub into a space that can be safely used and enjoyed during the night.

Always use Good-quality Outdoor Lighting Units

If the above has inspired you to buy new lighting for your garden we strongly recommend that you buy what you need from a reputable retailer. It is important to remember that electricity and water can be a lethal combination. Therefore, you need your outdoor lighting to be made to a high standard and to be designed to withstand exposure to the elements.
