If you just want to refresh one room in your home, there are plenty of quick and easy solutions for a beautiful new look in no longer than an hour. Here are some of my favorite quick-fixes that will completely transform your room – without the fuss!
If the room is painted in fairly neutral hues, consider a complete change and paint one wall a striking color of your choice. This instantly adds a focal point to the room and gives you a whole new palate to play with as you change other small details. For a totally different look, you could even use a stencil to give your room a personal touch.
A quick way to achieve a more contemporary feel is adding a set of vertical blinds, which will change the way the light falls in the room and create beautifully warm textures and hues at different times of the day. Blinds also make the walls look less cluttered, and allow you to enjoy a little privacy without compromising on light.
Something Old, Something new
Look around for pieces of art or antiques that would change the style of your room. Keep an eye out for particular items and ornaments, especially doorknobs or lampshades, which can change the look and feel of the room.
Low lighting will create a cosy room, ideal in the living room or bedroom. A standing lamp over a favorite chair can be the start of a designated reading nook in seconds, while wall lighting around the dining area is perfect for an intimate meal at home. Conversely, bright lighting is ideal for rooms such as the kitchen or bathroom, which you often want to make more spacious – LED lighting in the ceiling is ideal for this, and currently very fashionable in interior design.
Sometimes it’s too easy to change a room. A well-placed throw over an unloved couch or a beautifully crafted quilt over the bed can make all the difference, turning what once looked tired into something new and colorful. Always look for ways you can make a difference.
