If you really want to buy yourself a more fulfilling life, it’s not how much money you earn that matters, but how you spend it. That also goes for the house you choose to live in. It’s not about its size but what you make of it.
Money wasn’t really a problem for this growing family and they knew what they wanted, but finding the perfect property wasn’t an easy task, even when looking in the sought-after Hamptons. At first, the couple wanted a big, open house, but they couldn’t find something that really spoke to them. Everything changed when they entered this classic Hamptons shingle cottage and fell in love with its architectural details and proximately to the beach.
The wife, Jenny Wolf, a Manhattan-based interior designer, knew she could transform this dark farmhouse from the 19th century into her dream getaway. She renovated the shingle cottage with approachable and kid-friendly interiors that carry a very relaxing and neutral color palette. The result is a place where you can go to at the end of the day and feel comfortable; and isn’t it the best result we can achieve in a house?
Renovated Hamptons Shingle Cottage
Nothing feels more cottage-y than a mint green front door. The paint color is Mermaid Green by Benjamin Moore.
To make the cottage feel bigger without actually having to add to it, the designer got rid of the attic, which allowed 6 feet more of vertical space and exposed vaulted ceilings. They also exposed the wooden beams on the first floor to add some more room and a touch of the old farmhouse it once was.
This neutral foyer is decorated with a large seagrass basket tucked under a wood sawhorse table, topped with glass lamp, framed sea fan and natural plants.

Isn’t this the best kind of house? I love homes that are simple, uncomplicated and is all about comfort and timeless architecture.
It’s sunny here and everything looks even more beautiful. The water is reflecting the blue sky and the flowers in my garden… well, now that I look at them, I see they need some help! What is happening with my peonies? It seems that my dear husband (sarcasm tone) drove with his lawn tractor and took a good part of it with him! Oh, gee! Seriously???
I hope you guys have a fantastic day. Enjoy the outdoors, have an ice cream, go for a walk, get out there and breathe some fresh air!
I will talk to you again tomorrow.
