Whether you’re in the process of prepping your home for sale or simply trying to give a more modern look and feel to your existing spaces laid out stock photos are an excellent decorative option for walls. If you’re not sure what this burgeoning interior design trend is all about, or how you might use it in your own home, stick around and we’ll be happy to explain. If on the other hand, you’re already enthralled with this perspective on ordinary and extraordinary things, you might find some new ideas to support your creative habits.

Add Interest To Any Area

When you’re redecorating, one of the biggest hurdles is determining how to redecorate the walls in your space once you’ve taken down the dated artwork that’s adorned them since you left college. The beauty of laid out stock photography is that it provides a variety of aesthetics, which compliment practically any interior space, including:

  • Minimalist design: essentially, laid out stock photos are more minimalist than most still life or landscape photography options that you could choose;
  • Technical detail: particularly useful for dedicated spaces, you can search through thousands of images to find technical imagery matching your hobby, business, or other specific technical interest;
  • Selective coloring: another very useful aspect of flat lay stock photography is that it lends itself to color selection – meaning you can find images themed by color, as well as subject matter, to suit your decor; and aesthetics.
  • Easy themes: perhaps the easiest way to add interest to a space is by using flat lay photographs to inform visitors of the theme of the space.

Laid out stock photos are definitely a unique option for any room – largely because there are limitless design possibilities from the subjects one can “layout” to photography from a bird’s eye perspective.

Give Passive Information

While you might not think of your living room as a place friends and family gather to learn, laid out stock photography is a great way to share interesting facts with everyone. Because of the amount of detail in typical lay flat photography, it is intriguing from afar, people are innately drawn to gaze at the image closer.

If you’re a business owner, this can be a great way to deconstruct various aspects of your work to showcase terms clients may be unfamiliar with and explain them. For example, in a restaurant, you can use laid out photographs to give customers information about where the ingredients were sourced from in your signature dish. The advantage of this is that you are not forcing this information on anyone. You’re not demanding that they slog through a dense menu to absorb relatively trivial facts. Instead, you’re displaying the information in a creative way, inviting people to learn a little more about cheese or whatever else, should they wish to know more.

Showcase Your Unique Interests

Whether you’re passionate about cars or books, there are stock photographs out there waiting to show the world where your interests lie. This is a superb opportunity to show guests a little about yourself, but also gives you an opportunity to invite them to learn more about why you’ve chosen certain decorative themes.

Perhaps the decoration of your dining room all started with a bright yellow bowl that caught your eye in a trendy restaurant. You can go to a stock photo site, plug in “laid out photographs of bowls” and find scores of excellent images that can help you tell that story without ever saying a word.

Colorize Your World

Although I mentioned color previously, it’s worth clarifying and emphasizing how lay flat photographs can enhance the color-based themes of your home or office interior. Laid out photos are available in plenty of different formats, and often, rather than searching for a subject, you may look for a specific color to generate unique and unexpected results. Choosing secondary or even tertiary complimentary colors to accent your spaces while using laid out stock photos is a great way to enhance the overall look and feel of a space, adding energy and setting the mood, with relative ease.

I hope you’ll enjoy experimenting with laid out photographs for your next home interior project.
