Modern Farmhouse with black door and black shutters

Depending on where you live, the winter months can be long and cold. While I’m indoors during the winter, I feel the need to keep busy, improving my home with new projects. There is no better time to add value to your home from within. Today, I’ll talk about some of the easy indoor projects that you can do yourself to raise the overall value of your home.

Deep Clean Carpets

New and fresh looking carpets always add value to a house. You can visit your major hardware retailer nearby and rent a professional grade carpet cleaner. This will allow you to do a complete deep clean on your carpets at a relatively low cost. You should try to clean all the carpets from the staircases down to the basement renovation. More importantly, carpet cleaning is also recommended for your health. It’s easy, quick and makes a huge difference.

Fireplace Mantle

Many of us let the fireplace mantle get old over the years. If you spend a lot of time around the fire, take the opportunity to refinish the fireplace mantle. It will become a center piece of the home and catch anyone’s eye who comes in. Anyone who is appraising your home value will appreciate a modern looking fireplace mantle. Your guests will love it too.

Paint With A Fan

Of course, a new paint job on the indoors is a great winter project. However, you might have trouble drying all of the paint. Use a fan oscillating at very slow pace and crack a window. By the time March rolls around, you will have a bright house with a fresh coat of paint in every room. If you plan to sell, the impact of color and interior design ideas can have a major impact on the buyer’s perception.

Install Shelving Storage

Like most of us, I can never have enough storage. Now is the perfect time to pick up some shelving and create new storage in your house. You can add shelves in the basement, bathrooms and laundry rooms. Of course, you can add shelving in bedrooms too. However, it can be too much at times. Less is more in the bedroom. Add some shelving in places where you can really use it and appraiser can see the added benefit too.

Upgrade Faucet Features

If your house faucets are dated, take the time to update them. With a little DIY effort, you can install new faucets with additional features. In fact, the more modern faucets add a level of sophistication to any bathroom or kitchen. Surely, this is an easy upgrade to these areas of the home. As you already know, any upgrades to the kitchen and bathrooms are a boost to the house value.

Enjoy Your Nest Egg Upgrades

After you have made all these easy indoor upgrades, you should stay in your house as long as possible. You might have a higher home equity value, but the mortgage payments might become too demanding. To stay in your house longer, you can use this helpful calculator to consider a reverse mortgage. It can provide financial support in your retirement years and continue to enjoy the comfort of living in the home you worked so hard for.

If you are looking for easy indoor DIY projects for the winter, these are great places to start. Your carpets will look brand new. The fireplace will be a restored center piece. Then, you can add a fresh coat of paint along with new shelving and faucets to upgrade your home. These indoor projects all increase value to the house and keep you busy while you’re inside.
