This classic colonial home was built on a lake in the western suburbs of Minneapolis. The family had lived in an old home on the lot for years and wanted to recreate a generation feel for their new home. Larger boards were used for the exterior siding, making the home feel very historic. The owners desired a very clean look for the interiors which featured traditional bones, but more of a modern tone for the fixtures and the furnishings. While mixing in vintage rugs and some furnishings from the original home, Martha Dayton Design added strong colors and new pieces to deliver a fresh and updated interior.

“The Family really desired the authenticity of divided light window grids, just like you see on the East Coast. The cedar shingle roofing is machine cut and combined with copper gutters and a black charcoal granite chimney with gable steps, they create a period feel. The architect considers this an asymmetrical colonial. The owners were adamant about including a breezeway.” – Martha Dayton Design
