Hello, everyone! It’s wonderful to have you on Home Bunch today and I am truly excited to present the impeccable work of this talented builder on the blog. Donatelli Builders specialize in building upscale custom homes and performing luxury renovations in the Chicago suburbs area and it’s an honor to have them here for the first time. Please, keep reading to know more details about this recent home renovation:
“Having spent years in the home they built in 2002, our clients John + Lisa were ready to bolster the overall function and design to better suit their lifestyle. Thoughtfully crafted and curated with the help of local Architect and interior design team Z+O architecture + interiors, the spaces now flow together while still maintaining room definition. The first floor is reimagined and embodies everything the homeowners intended; welcoming, bright, purposeful and a place to gather with family and friends.
No details were left unturned from floor to ceiling. The whole house electrical system has been enhanced, streamlined and uncluttered. Counter top pop up receptacles are installed to reduce unsightly wall outlets, shelf lighting has been added to create ambience and all the controls are programed together to be operated in a convenient phone app. The kitchen windows have been lengthened down to the counter tops to fill the space with light and brightness; easily transformed with automated Lutron window shades fully compatible with the lighting control system. Trim details tie together seamlessly to carry one room into the next in perfect choreographed form and function.
The spaces now have a finish and flow; retiring dated designs and technologies for a thoughtfully composed layout that best suits the way the homeowners live and entertain in their home.”

As you walk through the front door, centered in the home is the Kitchen. The overall layout now makes sense with distinct work zones and a place for family and friends to gather. Box beams were added to break up the vast ceiling and give definition to each area in the Kitchen, and carefully coordinated lighting align within the pattern of the box beams. The windows were replaced, enlarged and specified in black to create a focal point and add a connection to the beautiful back yard. The knee wall under the window wall was removed so the new windows sit directly on the countertops. Finishes were kept neutral, incorporating elements of interest with the blue cabinets, walnut shelves, brass cabinet hardware and light fixtures. No details were overlooked including adjusting cabinet layouts to allow for perfect tile back splash layouts and never placing switches or outlets within those tiled spaces for the most pleasing look possible. Alignment of shelving and range hood with grout joints and pop-up counter top outlets with wireless charging and USB ports make this exceptionally user friendly with a timeless contemporary look.

The game room sets a lively mood with mirrored tile backsplash and up-lit display shelves inspired by a Chicago bar. The space will be centered around a large round table and upholstered chairs under the sculptural pendant light fixture, a perfect setting for game nights. The ambiance is made complete by the homeowner’s vinyl collection, played through the enhanced sound from newly incorporated Sonos sound system. The blue high gloss cabinets, brass cabinet hardware and walnut shelves tie the game room and adjacent kitchen together, and the 10-foot ceilings are brought to human-scale by the added transoms. The metallic patterned ceiling wall covering is a bold motif that is repeated in the game room furnishings and contributes textured elements to the vibrant atmosphere of the room.
