Lighting your home properly makes your interior design look so much better. Lighting is for ambiance and aesthetics, but you also need lights to see your way around the house at night. If you want to choose the perfect lighting for your home, here are some tips that will come in handy:

Figure out Your Lighting Goals

Task or direct lighting usually focuses on a certain work area. On the other hand, ambient or indirect lighting focuses on ambiance and determines the overall lighting of your home. When you decide what kind of lighting you want for a certain room, you should start looking at the lighting options. Make sure that you choose lighting that sets the right mood for every room in your house.

Use Exterior Wall Sconces

Your outdoor lighting does not have to be utilitarian only. Of course, you are shooting for security lighting, but you should also consider the aesthetics. For instance, you can choose presentable outdoor lighting such as custom column mount lighting. Wall sconces can provide light against the outside of your home and create the right ambiance during evening hours.

You can use directional sconces to focus on the aspects of your home to which you want to draw attention. You should draw the eye to outside plants and exterior niches that you want people to see.

Provide Lighting for Security and Safety on Your Home’s Exterior

You should light the walkways and sidewalks that are around the perimeter of your home with ambient lighting. If you opt for dim exterior lighting, you might risk welcoming intruders into your compound. On the other hand, outside lighting that is too bright might disturb the neighbors and consume too much power.

To deter intruders from your home, you should consider installing motion-activated flood lights around the corners of your house. For further guidelines on what to do on the outside of your home, you should follow the lighting and aesthetics of the neighboring houses. When living in rental units such as the Atelier, best apartments in downtown LA, you should talk to your landlord before adding any lighting.

Install Multiple Light Sources in One Room

In rooms such as the living room and kitchen, you need to install different light sources to achieve different looks and functions in one space. For instance, a few lights under the kitchen counter will be great for task lighting. In the living room, you should opt for a floor lamp near your favorite reading chair or couch. Moreover, bathroom mirrors should be well lit without glaring light or shadows.

Research Chandeliers for Formal Spaces

If you are considering a formal chandelier, you should choose one that does not make your space look dated. In most cases, people buy chandeliers without thinking about the décor that will surround it or the effect they want to create. Some chandeliers have simple designs such as small bulbs and faux candles while others are made from ornate crystals.

Before you buy a chandelier, you should measure your ceiling height and space dimensions to make sure that it will fit.

Use Recessed Lighting for Modern Décor

Recessed lighting is good because it offers directional light. Moreover, you can connect them to dim switches if you want to have full range lighting. If you have high ceilings in your home, you should opt for recessed lighting.

When choosing lighting for your home, you should not be afraid to experiment with different ideas.
