Home Bunch - Interior Design Ideas

Being ‘green’ and helping to look after the planet has never been more important. With strange weather patterns and ice caps in the poles melting it is time to make changes to the way we live to ensure it is more sustainable. There are small and large ways that you can make changes, some which cost at the time but will save you money in the long run and others you can start easily today, any change will mean you are doing your bit for Earth.

Small Changes

Most of us are aware of some of the small changes we should do such as turning off taps when they don’t need to be on turning out the lights when not in use, however many of us forget or simply think they won’t be on that long. Turning these off will certainly add up, especially when they are things you do on a daily basis.

Waste Less, Recycle More

Living in a house obviously creates waste, mainly from empty food packages. According to plasticnews.com in 2012 around 25 percent of plastic was recycled, which is a relatively low number and can definitely be improved upon. Many people do not consider what material they are throwing away in the bin, but it only takes two seconds to think and place it in a different container to make sure it gets recycled.

Install Solar Panels

This final idea is one of the more costly options and will only work in certain areas but is still worth considering. You could purchase a digital thermometer from Digital Meters which will measure and record the temperature so you can find out how strong the suns rays are and how often the weather is this way. If you have a considerable amount of sun then you could have panels installed on top of your roof. The panels generate electricity from the sun, enabling you to run your water and electricity in a cheaper and more sustainable way in the long run.

Green

These are just a few things, there are many more ways such as checking you have the right amount of insulation installed, making a concentrated shopping list so you do not throw out uneaten food and much more. There is lots of information on how you can do your bit to save the planet when you research. Knowledge is power and in this case, it can save you money!

Many thanks to the designers for sharing the details above.

Timely! My hubby is “saddling up” his bike and cart now to do a “roadside cleanup.” Bless him…he has already logged in over FOUR HUNDRED bags of trash on a 5 mile stretch in the past decade. I just “don’t get” some people…trash. franki

Everyone needs to do their bit – it makes for a more organised and controlled home anyway which makes us feel better. I do however feel that businesses, big and small, need to also watch their consumption and waste of electricity and rubbish – the lights and rubbish in the shopping centres are huge 🙁

Great post…This year I came up with another idea.. I have a bucket by the kitchen sink now and fill it with water while waiting for the hot water to kick in. I watered my plants this summer with that water and to think I would wait and let the water drain away till the water turned hot to wash a few dishes.

  4. That’s a brilliant idea, Monica!

Thanks for sharing it with us!

The house on the pictures looks amazing! I´m wondering..Does the green moss on the wall serve as some kind of natural insulation or it´s just a decoration? I switched to CFL lightbulbs some time ago and they last and last and last. Although, I admit that sometimes it´s quite annoying that they do not give enough light instantly. I´m also thinking about collecting rainwater to use for my garden..I haven´t done any research on the subject yet, but I hear it´s not at all that expensive.

Going green at home is a trend that has not only popped up everywhere, but is taking a huge effect in helping the environments as well as our pockets, installing solar panel is also a good thing to save energy, great article!
