Most of the people don’t clean it regularly as a lot of products are available in the market for cleaning shower doors. As we all know squeegee is a great way to keep clean glass doors and walls but here we will discuss some more useful tips and tricks for cleaning shower door and its maintenance.

What Causes Soap Scum?

Soap scum is most highlighted on the glass door and it is caused by soap paraffin wax when it reacts to the hard water. But the soap scum can be different when water quality and bathing inclinations vary. It is something you use the shower curtain, bathtub, tiles and glass shower doors.

Tip: Here are some useful tips and tricks which are given below:

Try vinegar:

Vinegar is the ultimate solution for cleaning but use the equal amount of dish soap with white vinegar to cut the soap scum, mildew and mineral building. The reason is that if you use only white vinegar for cleaning, it won’t give you best results.

How to Use:

  • Mix the warm white vinegar with dish soap
  • Use warm water for rinsing
  • Spray this solution inside and outside the door and rub it with the sponge.
  • Leave it for half an hour and use the paper towel to dry off the shower door.
  • The stronger stain will be removed after two to three scrubs.

Use hydrogen peroxide:

Hydrogen peroxide is a great way to clean sum and mineral deposit and mildew. It is easily available in the market. You can find it at drugstores.

How to use:

Spray the Hydrogen peroxide onto the mildew using the spray bottle.

Leave it for a couple of minutes and wipe off with the clean towel.

Apply it up to four times as no scrubbing is required.

Squeegee every single day:

If you clean your glass shower door every single day, you can rid of to spend hours to clean the shower door after months. Apparently, it looks like a too much cleaning every day but it requires just a few seconds if you follow this tip. Clean it with the squeegee that will reduce the mineral and scum deposit. Eventually, it will take less cleaning time.

If you are not a fan of everyday cleaning then opt the rain repellent to clean the door and avoid old-school remedies. You can buy it from local automobile store. It repels the water and stops it from sticking to the shower door as it repels the rainwater. It prevents to build a dirt and mildew deposit on the door like rainwater stop to build the mud and sleet deposit on the windscreen.

How to use:

Coat your glass shower door with the rain repellent

Use glass protector.

Glass protector is used on glass shield protectors and car windows that will keep away wetness on the shower doors.

How to use:

  • Rub it with the microfiber cloth or paper towel.
  • Let it dry and then rub it in the circular motion.
  • It will give you absolute protection from scum but it depends on the humidity and type of the glass. It will give you protection for several months.

Keep the bathroom ventilated

Keep your bathroom dry and ventilated by opening the window during a shower to avoid the mildew and soap scum. Also, turn on the fan for drying the area. It will lessen the time for mildew to take benefit from moisture. Squeeze the towel and spread it on the stand to dry after use.

Use Citrus

Citrus is cleaning for all sins means for all stains. Lemon is the best option when it comes to citrus cleaning solutions.

How to Use:

Take half cut lemon with one-half tbsp. of baking soda.

Dip it in the baking soda and rub on the shower door.

You can use few drops of lemon oil too while rubbing the glass door. The reason is that oil will prevent the door from soap scum by repelling water.

DIY Shower Spray

You can make daily shower spray for deep cleaning at home.

How to Make:

  • Take 1/2 cup vinegar, 10-20 drops of essential oil, 1 cup water and a bit of dish soap.
  • Mix all the ingredients and spray it after squeegeeing on the glass shower door.
  • Don’t use vinegar for stone tiles shower.

Hard Water:

Hard water comprises of excess minerals and these minerals leave hard water spots that are found in toilet bowls, water faucets, streaks, and pipes. These minerals are sticky in nature and never washed away. It’s likely to be impossible to remove or hide it.

How to remove hard water spots:

  • Vinegar can remove and hide these stubborn spots but don’t forget to use the diluted mixture of vinegar i.e. half water and half vinegar.
  • Wipe this mixture on and let it dry for a few minutes and rinse.
  • You can also use lemon or orange oil for the metal rim spots.
  • Open for air flow after wiping the door with a towel and spray this mixture on a shower door after each bath time.
  • Adopt this weekly routine that will reduce the cleaning time in a long run.

These easy tips will help you to stop the mildew building that makes your glass shower doors look so obnoxious. So refresh your doors with these homemade and DIY tips.
