When inviting guests into our homes for the very first time, there is often a mixture of anxiousness and excitement. We want our guests to enjoy themselves, as well as be impressed by our homes. However, the fear of a possible awkward silence is always looming in the back of our minds. To avoid such a conversation conundrum, you should consider adding conversation pieces to your interior décor. To give you a few examples of such conversational pieces, I have compiled the following list.
Choose your favorite flower and set the bouquet somewhere front and center where your guests will be sure to see it. Everyone enjoys a beautiful bouquet of flowers acting as a centerpiece, and will be sure to comment on the bouquet as well. Your friends will be curious as to how you got the flowers (if it was for a special occasion or just because) and the conversation will simply flow from there.
Candles look beautiful as home decorations. Be this as it may, you’re bound to find similar candle settings throughout most homes in America. To alter your candle settings from typical to conversation worthy, play around with colors, scents, and candle holders. Instead of displaying your candles in matching candlesticks, try an assortment of sizes and shapes. The assortment will look modern, upbeat, and discussable
Wall art is a wonderful way to liven up any room and makes for phenomenal conversation pieces. Whether you prefer classic art, such as Van Gogh, or something more modern, such as Warhol, you can never go wrong with displaying a favorite print by your favorite artist. If you enjoy painting yourself, perhaps you could display one of your own pieces, as well. Art is one of the greatest ways to get conversations rolling. Everyone always has an opinion on art, and by using artwork as a conversation piece you will not only be sure to have steady conversation amongst your guests, but you will also get to discover your friends’ artistic tastes.
Everyone has their favorite china, the special plates and glassware they break out only when entertaining dinner guests. To give your dinner party a special treat, choose a truly unique dish set to serve them with. Try to choose something that represents the meal you’re eating or the occasion you and your guests have gathered for. For example, if you’re having Mexican food, consider a Mexican inspired dish set. If you’re gathered for a friend’s birthday, consider festive colored dishes.
An Original Dish
Does your family have a special secret recipe for a particular entrée or dessert? Or perhaps you learned a unique recipe from a television show or came across one online? Put your cooking skills to the test and whip up a fun, yummy meal for your guests. They will be raving about how delicious it was and eager to learn the recipe for themselves.
Having guests over to our homes should be fun and exciting, not exhausting! Avoid conversation lulls by incorporating one or a few of the aforementioned conversation pieces into your home décor. Not only will your guests love these unique pieces, but you will enjoy discussing them time and time again. Not all of us are equipped with the gift of gab. Allow these conversation pieces to do the talking for you.
