Located in Los Angeles, California, this cape cod style home is all about family living with comfort while mixing a coastal flair.
The homeowners (a couple with two small children) wanted their 4,100 square feet, 4 bedroom and 3½ bath cape cod to re-create the feeling often found in charming Connecticut coastal cottages. With the help of interior designer Phil Norman from Normal Design Group, this cape cod exudes charm and coastal design ideas from beginning to end.

Coastal Cape Cod Home
According to the designer, the homeowners wanted a more of a historical reference to Cape Cod, so he used reclaimed wood floors and antique reclaimed beams imported from Connecticut.
When it comes to the entry hall, a custom inlaid compass rose brings a coastal charm as soon you open the Dutch doors.
Lantern is by “Currey & Company” and mirror is from “Made Goods”.
Living Room
The living room is full of personality and you’re sure to find something interesting to see in every direction.
Sofa is by Hickory Chair; window linen: Rose Tarlow; rug: Amara Rugs; Swedish clock: Lee Stanton Antiques. Maps (above sofa) are vintage.
Wall treatment is a Schumacher’s raffia wallpaper.
Ceiling beams are by Vintage Timberworks.
Dining Room
Being the only dining area in the house, this space feels casual but dressed-up at the same time.
The English Windsor chairs are from the 1870s and the English table is from the early-20th-century.

Coastal Kitchen
I can’t help but fall in love with coastal kitchens whenever I see them, and this is not an exception. I love the reclaimed wood floors against the white cabinets.
Island countertop is honed black granite, except for the wine rack, which is topped with a slab of Carrara marble for rolling out dough. The marble is repeated on the Walker Zanger backsplash tiles, laid in a chevron pattern.
Pendants above island are from Restoration Hardware.

Family Room
This family room is all about comfort and family living. I am loving the coastal decorative pieces in the shelves.
Striped chairs are from “Pearson” and stools is from “Palecek”.
Playroom
Having a limited space, the homeowners decided the playroom to double as a spare bedroom. The kids can use the space to play and create, but if there is a guest staying over, a Murphy bed can easily be pulled-out from the cabinet on the right.
Powder Room
In the powder room, stained alder paneling is paired with a paisley wall covering by Ralf Lauren.
The homeowners found the door’s porthole in a nautical antiques shop.
Staircase
Millwork beautiful contrasts with the dark hardwood floors, while a photo wall was impeccably designed.
The dog is adorable! Although I am not sure if he’s happy… He seems to be thinking “Can you please get out of my house?” 🙂
Master Bedroom
What a wonderful bedroom! The entire room feels soothing and dramatic at the same time. Truly inspiring!
The custom bed is topped with a “John Robshaw” comforter and the antique lanterns are from “Old Good Things”.
Paint Color
Paint Color is Dunn-Edwards’ Alaskan Skies.
Bathroom
The master bathroom feels feminine and sophisticated with marble flooring and tub deck.
Chandelier is from Currey & Company.

How perfect is this home, right? I really like how cozy every room feels, not to mention the soft hues… always a favorite!
Did anyone watch the world cup final today? It was very interesting for me. What do you think of the result? Happy for Germany or sad for Argentina?
This week should be a busy week for me, lots of things to do, but it’s okay. One thing I am trying to learn is to be calmer. I am not sure why, but I was feeling very anxious since this year started. I was always feeling the need of getting everything done at once. I still feel certain pressure, but I am learning to do what I have to do in a calmer way. I am taking deep breaths more often (yes, literally!) and I am always reminding myself that life goes beyond my errands.
We might be busy people, but we can’t allow ourselves to paralyze our growth by suffocating the space for good and fun experiences. Allow yourself during this week to live more lightly. Don’t pressure yourself to perfectionism, instead, allow space for unexpected happiness.

I recently purchased the Alaskan Skies paint for my bedroom. It seems to pull a lot of purple tones more than a blue. Your picture looks more blue to me.

The paint color was provided by the designer, so I am positive about the source.
Always keep in mind that paint color can look slightly different on the computer. Your monitor can change the color and, many photographers also alter the light to improve the quality of each picture. That, undoubtedly can alter the final results of each image. Also, keep in mind the amount of light you have in your space. That is a crucial point when it comes to paint color.
Seeing paint color online gives you a guidance, but you should always buy a sample and try it on your walls before deciding on it.
