Nancy Serafin of Nancy Serafini Interior Design is one of my favorite interior designers and I loved sharing her kitchen on Home Bunch not too long ago. Now she is back to share her dreamy vacation home on Spring Island with all of us. Here, she tells us more about this enchanting place.
“My husband and I had been traveling to South Carolina as golfers and weekend warriors since 2001 . We realized early on that we were totally captivated by the beauty of the Low Country. Watching the sun rise over the marsh has the most calming effect . We found that Spring Island, a 3500 acre nature preserve and community completely filled our needs. We were fortunate to purchase the lot formerly owned by the great Arnold Palmer, the designer of Old Tabby Links golf course where the 18th hole is ironically located just outside our window.
We were also fortunate to meet Joel Newman, an architect who has successfully mastered the low country style of ease and comfort – no pretensions. I chose the exterior colors so that the house (3200 sq ft) fits snugly among live oaks, magnolias and every variety of sea grass. Large windows were specifically used to join the interior with exterior. The warm, inviting color palette of the interiors (brown, green, ochre, blue and orange ) was selected merely by a glance outside the windows. Local craftsmen built our home with the directive that this house would be the jewel in my 40 year career as an interior designer. We could not be happier than when we welcome family and friends to rejoice in the bounty of nature.”
