Home Bunch - Interior Design Ideas

Do you wonder sometimes how interior designers live? Linda McDougald from Postcard from Paris knows how to live and live well! She re-designed and renovated her then traditional home with an innovative mix of contemporary and exquisite French antiques.

Located in Charleston, South Carolina, this French-inspired family home features dark-stained oak floors, commanding millwork, Lagos Azul limestone and an impressive collection of French antique lighting. But what really takes your breath away is the kitchen renovation executed by the interior designer. The extensive kitchen renovation features a La Cornue Chateau range, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances and very inspiring custom cabinetry.

The result of this is a French-inspired home that is perfect for this family, in a very elegant and timeless way.

French-Inspired Family Home

This French-inspired family home has traditional architecture with ornate details.

Timeless elegance.

Front Door

Glossy black doors always feel chic and dramatic.

Floors: Stain is a custom mix of ebony and dark walnut on oak.

I love the oversized sconces. Big statement!

Living Room Design

The formal living room is very elegant and display many beautiful antiques.

Beautiful antique leather books are used to decorated the coffee table.

The living room is quite formal but still very inviting.

Stunning Italianate candle holders.

French Antique

This home showcases some outstanding antiques.

French Dining Room Design

The dining room has a very interesting way to mix various antiques pieces with a more contemporary way to display art.

French Touch

This room has elegant details everywhere you look.

The armoire and the chandelier are antiques.

The designer uses the armoire to storage her beautiful china.

Dining Room paint color is Sherwin Williams Softer Tan (walls & ceiling in eggshell finish — trim, including paneling below in gloss finish).

Cane Chairs

Breathtaking antique cane chairs.

Family Room

This is such a beautiful and well-appointed room! Such a wonderful example of how understated can be extraordinary.

The family room is approximately 20′-6″ x 19′-4″.

Home Office

I love seeing ceilings painted in different colors. Using a slightly darker color will make the space feel cozier.

The light fixture is by 20th Century Lighting in “Old Nickel” finish.

Stunning framed gallery. The lamp is an antique.

You probably know how much I love white kitchens, but this kitchen simply stays in your mind. The details are incredibly well-designed and I really like the idea of using a different color for the two cabinets beside the hood.

Dark Cabinets

The kitchen has La Cornue Chateau range, Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, custom cabinetryand Waterworks tile.

I would cook more often with this “baby”. 🙂

This antique cabinet is an inspirational piece.

A mix of new and old.

Tailored furniture adds some elegance to this sunroom.

This sunroom is just another opportunity the designer had to create yet another beautiful sitting area.

French Doors

These doors were custom-made.

Wall Paint Color is Sherwin Williams Natural Choice and window trims are Benjamin Moore Bronzetone 60.

French Candle Holders

No details were overlooked in this house.

The master bedroom has beautiful shades of gray. I especially love the bench and the bed.

Life is all about the people we love…

I see this house and I need to think this designer is a perfectionist. Her home is perfect in every detail!

Romantic and feminine.

A vintage bench, like the one found here, always adds more interest to a bedroom.

Sitting Area

The draperies are custom-made by the designer.

Some more inspiring French antiques.

The master bathroom feels very inviting. Imagine taking a bath here while overlooking the garden. Very calming!

French Chandelier

Yet, another gorgeous antique chandelier.

White Marble & Subway Tile

Beautiful combination of timeless materials: marble and subway tiles.

Floors are Lagos Azul limestone.

Great selection of elements.

Green Beauty

Outdoor Living Room

This is a great place to relax and talk to friend in a sunny afternoon.

The patio set is by Restoration Hardware. The finish is bronze and the fabric is “natural”.

Are you getting your home ready for spring yet?

I can’t wait to see my garden full of flowers like this one. Life is better when it’s colorful out there!

Bring a book and take some time for yourself.

And this is why we should spend hours gardening… It’s always worth to create our own oasis.

Does anyone know who the artist is who painted the art behind the harp??

  6. Hello Carolyn,

I’m not sure who the artist is. You can ask the designer here: http://www.postcardfromparis.com/

I am behind on my blog reading and what a treat for Mother’s Day to see such beautiful details. The calm colors and yet warm kitchen cabinetry was a perfect mix. I am always weak in the knees to see front or back doors that are arched!! Then the re-purposed China cabinet is stunning. Have a wonderful Mother’s Day!!
