Not every day do we encounter a home where all the elements seem to be in perfect harmony with each other and their surroundings.
Located in Shelter Island, NY and designed by Wettling Architects, this shingle-style beach cottage is luxurious for its location but it also features a casual interior where anyone can easily feel at home.
The natural materials such as reclaimed hardwood floors and ceiling beams make this neutral beach cottage feel warm and inviting while bright blue ocean views seem to bring the only touch of color this home needs.
Take a break from snow and dream about this sun-filled beach cottage.

I have to say that I have a good feeling when I look at this kitchen. It feels light, uncomplicated and clean. It’s a place where you want to cook and spend time at.
Beams: The beams were reclaimed rafters from a demolished building. It took about 12 people to put each one in place and install, a very good contractor, “Men at Work”, did a great job installing them.

Every home should have a well-organized mudroom and this one gets an A+! Notice the beautiful custom cabinets and the horizontal tongue and groove walls.
According to the architect, walls are t&g kiln dried cypress. Pre-primed edges and a semitransparent wash. The prep riming of the tongues before install, makes the minor movement not noticeable and part of the planned look.
The floors are antique chestnut, unstained with a satin tung oil.
Sconces are from “Interieurs”.
The hallway that leads to the bedrooms carry beautiful nautical sconces from “Marsten and Langinger” (UK).
Bunk rooms are a must in cottages, right? Here, the architect designed the custom beds to fit standard twin mattresses.
Hardware is from “White Chapel Ltd”.
“Benjamin Moore 962 Gray Mist”.
Fan is the “Altus Modern Fan”.
This bedroom is all about serenity!
The ceilings, floors and walls are Benjamin Moore 967 (cloud white) and the trim is Benjamin Moore 968 (dune white).
The bathroom carries the same serene feeling the master bedroom has. I love the classic mix of white subway tiles and white marble together. What a timeless and elegant combo!

Subway tiles are the “Waterworks Architectonics – Mykonos – 3″x6”.
Grout: “Laticrete Bright white”.

Life is always a little better by the sea… I’m sure this “puppy” would agree with me. 🙂

This cottage keeps getting better and better. Don’t you also love this view?
The pool is spectacular! I love its simplicity and the fact it doesn’t compete with its surroundings.
Patio stone is called “Blue Ice”.
You wouldn’t need a vacation if you lived here. What a dream!
With a friend or on your own, this is truly a place of happiness!
What a delightful home this is! I hope you had a great time seeing it here.
So, how are you doing today? Everything’s good with you? I hope you’ve started this week feeling good, happy and with lots of energy! If you’re not there yet, try to eat healthy and have plenty of sleep. Nothing makes me feel better (and happier) than a good night of sleep.
Wishing you all a great day and I hope we can talk some more tomorrow.
All the best to you!
