Sometimes if we are a little lucky and work towards our dreams, they do come true. Hope and positiveness can’t disappear with the first obstacle and persistence must be equivalent to our strength. Having someone to share a dream with is a blessing and Brad Rempel, singer of the country music band of High Valley, along with his wife Rebekah Rempel dreamed big when they saw this land and its pond back in 2012 in Spring Hill, TN. The land finally went for sale in 2019 and the plans to build their Modern Farmhouse Cottage, known as Cottage at The Ridge @cottageattheridge, started to materialize after a lot of planning between the couple.
Here, Brad and Rebekah share some insights. Also, keep in mind that you can rent this gorgeous Black Modern Farmhouse Cottage. Make sure to keep reading and follow them on Instagram for more details. 🙂
“We grew up in the extreme northern reaches of Canada. I am from La Crete, AB (home of the Peace River Ice Bridge) and Rebekah is from Fort St. John, BC. Both our families had farms and so did almost all of our neighbors, so living in a city, town or even suburb was never part of our plan. When my band (High Valley) signed our first record deal in Nashville, we moved to Downtown Nashville. It was a great place to be for networking, proximity to studios etc but not a realistic place to own farm land! We have two boys (Drew is 12 and Cash is 9). When our oldest turned 4 we moved half an hour south of town and bought a few acres of land in the popular Nashville suburb of Spring Hill, TN. I was riding my dirtbike a few years ago, randomly weaving down back country roads when I came across a modern day cattle day drive. There were about 5 men on horseback rounding up a herd of cattle and moving them from one pasture to another, down a steep hill to a pond. I’ll never forget riding my dirt bike back home that day and telling Rebekah “I feel like I was just in the middle of the wild west!” From that day on we had our eyes on that farm, it took a few years, but finally 3 years ago we were able to begin purchasing some of the land. Eventually, a couple years ago the final two parcels we were interested in became available and we were able to complete our dream of having the 80 acre farm including that same pond I saw years ago!” – Brad Rempel
“Our dream for the land was to have a place to take our boys where they could stay outside, have campfires, catch fish, ride dirtbikes and just have a similar experience to ours growing up. We were planning on building a little shed on the property to park dirtbikes and 4 wheelers. We threw around the idea of adding a bathroom. When record labels and publishing companies in Nashville were forced to shut down their studios in 2020, we thought it might be smart to add a studio as well. To say the whole project kind of snowballed out of control is a severe understatement :). High Valley’s 2020 plans all got cancelled so I was left with a ton of time on my hands. In August of 2020 Rebekah and I sketched out our basic concept for a 1 bedroom / 2 bath cottage with a front porch, back deck, outdoor shower and a loft/bunk room. We were able to work with Summertown Metals (local company with the same Mennonite heritage as us) to get the sketches and drawings into a real actual design. The Mennonites out here specialize in building Barns and we thought it would be a great nod to our heritage to have them build the shell of the cottage even though our vision was 99% modern and only 1% farmhouse. We spent many days standing on the roof of my Polaris trying to figure out the right spot to build the cottage for the ultimate views. Finally in September of 2020 we broke ground. Ashley Homestore and The Design Network got wind of the project and we started working together for our episode of “Celebrity Homes Unlocked.” The entire house from vanities, to lighting, to indoor and outdoor furniture, bedding, silverware, wall hangings, games etc are all from “Ashley Homestore.” Just over 5 months after breaking ground we spent our 1st night at the cottage. Our only regret is not building it sooner.” Brad Rempel

“This is technically our family’s second home / my writing / recording studio. However, we are so busy with our kid’s sports, that we decided to make it available for other people to use for music videos, weddings, etc. It’s been such a blessing to see the community use the space and we’ve had people from multiple states and countries use if for vacations. We’ve also had a ton of Nashvillians use it for staycations. It was so cool to read a comment from a guest the other day who said that their two children both caught their first fish in our pond. So far it’s booked almost every day! It’s available on Airbnb / Vrbo/ Avvay.” Brad Rempel
