Home Bunch - Interior Design Ideas

A VCA motorized cabinet containing a Samsung television stands at the foot of the bed in the master suite of a Long Island residence renovated by architect Thierry Despont; the Murano-glass chandelier is by Barovier & Toso.

I’m one of those people who doesn’t particularly want the television set to be the focal point in a room, but when you have a 60” flat screen television and a husband who adores his sporting events, it’s difficult to find a spot that’s not in-your-face. So, I did what others do to discover ways to minimize the impact of a giant television in my home: I went to Google.

I was delighted to discover some simple things I could do to hide the television and still make it possible for my family to enjoy all the perks of the large screen. So I thought I’d share them with you here.

Paint the wall the same color as the television. It won’t disappear completely, but it won’t be as stark as putting it on a white wall.

TV Lift Cabinet

Invest in a TV Lift Cabinet to hide the television when it’s not in use. With a push of a button, the television instantly appears. Plus, with cable and satellite boxes, Wii, Xbox, cords and games, the cabinets also provide storage for all the clutter that accompanies the entertainment areas in the home.

Recessed TV nooks are another way to conceal all the clutter and the television set when not in use. There are many ways to customize the bookshelves to hide all the electrical components behind closed doors.

TV Mirror

Consider investing in a television that is also a Television Mirror. There are many great options and sizes to consider. In the case shown above, an audio/visual company installed a tv mirror in the bathroom above the closet door. The tv is behind a mirror and the remote works through the class.

Hello, my friends!

I am currently designing my basement and the last picture has really inspired me. I love the idea of using sliding “barn doors” to conceal the tv. Brilliant!
